In September 2019 I had the pleasure of seeing the South Korean rockband Hey Men perform on the infamous streets of Hongdae, Seoul. They certainly knew how to get the crowd dancing along to their music! Time for a quick Q&A with these three talented young men.

DoYeong, GongTan and Terry Kim, how did you three get together as a group?

“We met each other at school and through mutual acquaintances.”

Who are your role models?

“There are a few international bands we look up to! Coldplay, The 1975, Imagine Dragons and The Vamps are a few of our favourites.”

Do you write your own songs? If so, where do you get your inspiration?

“Yes, we write our own songs. We mainly get our inspiration from our daily lives and from certain life experiences. As a band we’ve created some great memories, and we connect with everything we see and feel. We basically express our life stories through music.”

Which song from Hey Men is your favourite? And why?

“That’s a song called ‘Lotus’. It tells the exact story of ’us’.”

Is there a new album coming out soon?

“We don’t have an accurate release date, but we are working on various new songs. Hopefully our fans are looking forward to it!”

Do you have a message for your fans and future fans reading this article?

“Come to our gigs! We are a band you should see perform live. Then you’ll be able to see and experience our true worth.”

What is your ultimate goal with Hey Men?

“We simply want to be the best band in the world!”
